1. We Give Because Of Jesus
The Bible says that God gave his only Son, Jesus, so that we would be saved. But not only did God save us, he lavishes on us uncountable blessings and an eternal inheritance we can’t comprehend. God’s generosity towards us compels us to be generous in return.
2. We Give To Jesus
Everything we have belongs to God. Therefore, we do not really decide how much of our wealth, time or talents to give, as much as we decide how much of God’s wealth, time and talents we want to give back to Him. Generosity looks different for everyone.
3. We Give Through The Local Church
Jesus is the head of the church, his body. The local church is the hands and feet of Jesus to a specific local community. The primary way that we give to Jesus is through His church! We believe that Christ Followers should be connected into a local family of believers where they are encouraged and built up in the Gospel and empowered to live purposeful for the sake of Christ. The ministries of the church shouldn’t be supported by big outside donors, but by the partnering believers that make up this local family. So if you’re a part of the family, support the family.
This is not to say Christians should not also contribute to other ministries they feel called to support, over and above their support to the local congregation.
Generosity is our joy because we give to what we love. We believe that we should live with open hands always ready to give and receive. We believe in tithe and offerings motivated by grace, not guilt or obligation. Our church is not built on the generosity of a few but on the sacrifices of many. We’re generous with our time, talents, and treasure. God has given so much to us, it’s our joy to give back to His mission.
'Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.' 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
